Lake Placid, New York (WAGM) -

The week of training is now over and Caribou’s Tammy Landeen will be heading back to the County in the morning. Landeen has been in Lake Placid New York at a Para Bobsled training camp. She said it was great to shake off the rust after a long break.

Tammy Landeen: ”Made a climb on this track it is a really technical track. I am not actually at the top of it yet, but I did make some steps up. I am pretty excited about that. Up here we have the top of the track and then it goes all the way down the mountain. You can’t see all of it. It is a mile long.”

Landeen has been averaging three runs a day and she says that even when they are at the facility and outside they need to wear a mask and the safety protocols are in place to protect everyone.

Landeen:” They have been fabulous. We have been in a bubble since we got here. We don’t have any contact with anybody other than our crew and our helpers. They sanitize the start buildings after each group leaves. It has been a great set up and I am really happy.”

While most of the schedule has been cancelled for this year there are still World Cup and World Championships set for February and March in Switzerland and France. The US team selection will happen next month.

Landeen:” I am still technically on the team from last year. Our team selections are going to be next month back here at Lake Placid. We will have to go from the top of the track. Have our runs and have a race with all of the Americans that want to slide. That is something that has to be done every year. Once that selection happens in January if I make the selection I will be off to Switzerland and France.”

Landeen and the US Para Bobsled team are anxiously awaiting an announcement on bobsled becoming a Paralympic sport in 2026.

Landeen:” Monobob is a relatively new sport. Traditionally when people see bobsled they see four man or two man. This coming Olympics is going to be the first time that women will be in a mono-bob. You will see that on the Olympics next year. As far as Paralympics we still haven’t got the go ahead, but we have checked on the blocks so they just have to make the decision in our favor.”
