Big Rock preparing to open
Mars Hill , Maine (WAGM) - BigRock in Mars Hill is paying close attention to the weather forecast. The ski area is hoping to open for the season on Saturday.
Aaron Damon:” A lot does depend on the weather here. We have that storm coming. It might push us out a couple of days, but we are really hoping to be open on the 26th. It’s gong to be weather dependent. If we get a ton of rain we might have to push it back a couple of days.”
They have been making snow and grooming the natural snow they have received all in hopes of cashing in on what is normally one of the busiest weeks of the year.
Damon:” Christmas break is a big week everybody wants to get out and ski and we want to be on the mountain too.”
This year will be a little different at the slopes because there won’t be any Canadian cars in the parking lot because the US Canadian Border remains closed
Damon:” We are going to miss our Canadian Patrons this year. They make up about 30 percent of our business. We have been fortunate to see an increase in pass holders this year and we are thinking there’s going to be a lot of new pass holders and a lot of new skiers.”
Damon says that they are still planning on holding some of their popular events this year all with social distancing in mind.
Damon:” We will be running our ski school, ski for life and our lessons will be very similar to last year. We already practice Social Distancing when conducting lessons.”
