MARS HILL , Maine (WAGM) - The upcoming storm has forced Big Rock to delay the opening. Staff will begin re grooming trails and will start making more snow after the storm passes. Because of that they have delayed the opening until Monday the 28th at the very earliest. Big Rock officials also say they will have safety protocols in place for people visiting the ski area.

Aaron Damon:” The big new thing this year are 50 people on the first floor of the lodge and 50 people on the second floor of the lodge. The rental shop and the locker rooms are going to be five person capacity so it is going to be a little different.”

Also instead of going inside to purchase lift tickets the lodge will have an outside window.

Damon:” Lift tickets this year are going to be processed through the lodge. We installed a new window. Those tickets will be processed there as well as rentals. We will get all the information for the rental and you can then bring your slip over to the rental shop and get your gear.”

Protocols outside will also be in place.

Damon:” If you go inside we are requiring masks. All of our employees are going to have them and we are encouraging all of our guests to be wearing masks in the lodge. Once you are on the hill we have tons of space I am not wearing my mask at the moment because we have six feet of distance and if you can practice six feet a mask outside is not required.”
