PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Celtics great K.C Jones passed away on Christmas Day. Rene Cloukey went into the vault to find an old story with Jones visiting the County. Jones played in Houlton when the Celtics made a barnstorming appearance as part of their exhibition schedule. The Hall of Famer also spent time in Fort Fairfield back in the 60′s and then in 1987 he made a trip to the County. Jones was brought to the County by Anderson Beverage to meet with people on Loring Air Force Base and also to be in the Potato Blossom Festival Parade. On that Friday afternoon he broke from his itinerary and visited a basketball clinic at Caribou High School and talked to the youngsters in attendance. Even with his success as a professional Jones was very receptive to taking questions from the Youngsters and also to take time to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Jones was a tremendous basketball player winning eight NBA Championships in his nine year career with the Celtics. He also won three Championships as a member of the Coaching Staff. He won one as an Assistant Coach and two as the Celtics head coach and also was the coach when the Celtics lost two NBA Championships. Even with all of his success he was humble and willing to give of his time to a group of basketball players in the County. I am sure many of them still remember the day that K.C. Jones came to town.
