PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The University of Maine Fort Kent is in the market for a new women’s basketball coach. Fletcher Brown has stepped down to become women’s coach at Chandler Gilbert Community College in Arizona.

Brown:” I decided to go because ever since I was a kid I have been around of Jr College athletics as a ball boy or student athlete. Then here recruiting a lot of Jr College players it was something I have been intrigued by. The opportunity presented itself to coach at a Junior College and coach in a state I have a lot of family and coach closer to home. I thought it would be a new opportunity and new challenge.”

Brown was a member of the UMFK men’s team and after graduating became a men’s assistant coach before taking over the Women’s program. His team made it to the USCAA Championship game in March of 2019 and had another successful season last year.

Brown:” It’s been close to seven years now. If you would have told me when I first became a student here that you are going to eventually become a head coach, you are going to get your Masters and you are going to travel all over the country and play basketball I would have said you are crazy. It has been an incredible journey here so far. I met and connected with so many great people that I call friends for the rest of my life. It is just time for a little bit of a change of pace and a new opportunity.”
