Initial unemployment claims drop to six-month low in Maine

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Initial claims for Maine unemployment compensation dropped to their lowest level in more than six months.

The Maine Department of Labor recorded just under 1,400 initial claims for state jobless benefits the week ending May 1st. That’s the lowest it’s been since October 2020.

Another 300 initial claims were filed for federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).

Continued claims for state unemployment continue to be at their lowest level of 2021, with nearly 13,600 filed last week. Another 13,200 weekly certifications were filed for PUA.
