Local Firefighters virtual cooking experience with celebrity
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - In honor of International Fire Fighters Day, two local first responders were given the chance to learn from and cook with a celebrity.
On Tuesday, firefighters Dale Morrison and Chase Labbe of the Presque Isle Fire Department, traded in their fire gear for an apron. The two were instructed by Rachel Ray over zoom with fire departments from across the country.
The event was put on by the Dennis Leary firefighter’s foundation.
After receiving all of the ingredients, Morrison says they were tasked with making Rachel Ray’s Firehouse Joes and coleslaw from scratch. Morrison adds the experience was one he will never forget.
“It’s something that you take with you for the rest of your life,” Morrison said. “It was interesting. Another item that you learn, you know, in the back of your mind… of okay I’ve learned it and now I know how to cook this. It’s a different way of doing it instead of going to the store and buying a can of Manwich and like okay here’s sloppy joe. Making it from scratch was something different and you know it was pretty good.”
Morrison says the joes were a hit amongst the other firefighters at the station. He adds there were no leftovers, so it must have been pretty good.
