PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -Construction season is in full swing in the state.

Maine DOT is cautioning drivers to adhere to the speed limits and signage when driving through a construction zone.

“Drivers need to be careful, obey the posted speed limits, pay attention, don’t use a handheld device, obviously don’t drive impaired and be especially careful throughout those construction zones.”

“: For those of us who come to work and sit in an office all day, this is where these people go to work.  You know the people working out on the roads they have a job to do, they’re trying to make the roads better for everybody. Unfortunately, in Maine we have a short construction season and that’s also the season that people want to be on vacation and moving around and things so just a little bit of courtesy goes a long way.”

If you are caught speeding through a construction zone fines are doubled.
