PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -With the nice weather we’ve been having, the splash pad was able to open earlier this year.  Here’s Megan Cole with more on what this season will look like.

“It was fun getting wet and getting splashed on.”

“Uhh I like the turtle most.”

Hannah and Brooke are enjoying the splash pad which has opened 2 weeks early this year thanks to the nice weather we’ve had.  Gene Cronin, director of park and rec for the city of Presque Isle says with CDC guidelines relaxing, the splash pad has returned to normal operations.

“We can get rid of all of the restrictions.  Last year we had to have it fenced and counting numbers but this year there’s no regulations for that so we’re back to normal with the splash pad operations.”

Cronin says with the restrictions lifted, the community has been enjoying the return to normal.

“So people are really enjoying it.  They can go back and forth from the playground, the new sandbox to the splash pad to our concessions areas and it’s kind of a hub of community down here on riverside. It’s nice to be back to normal and to have the kids out having fun and families together and it’s just nice to have that sense of normalcy back.”

“It feels relieving that we can basically beat the heat cause it’s been either 70 or 80 degrees the past few weeks.”

Cronin adds that in addition to the splash pad being open, there are also other fun events that will be taking place on riverside.

“We’ve got our food truck Fridays which start June 18th.  We have movies in the park which we’ll do here on Fridays as well. There’s obviously rockin’ on riverside here on Thursdays so we’ve got a lot scheduled for this riverside area.”

The splash pad will be open every day from 10am-7pm.  It will be closed during inclement weather.
