What you need to know before flying
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Across the country, airports and commercial flights are still requiring masks despite the mandate ending.
Presque Isle is no different says Scott Wardwell, director of Presque Isle International airport. Federal guidance says all mass transit requires masking
“So our guidance is to keep the masks in place in the terminal and on the airline.”
Wardwell says the airline industry was requiring masks before the federal government was, and will continue to follow their own authority
“Even if the federal mandate goes away, if the industry feels that it’s a good idea, it may extend a little beyond that.”
But with restrictions relaxed, people are getting away. Wardwell says 80% of their regular arriving passengers have returned to the airport
“We’re in June were back to 11 flights a week, and in July well be back to 12, and 12 flights a week is normal.”
So while the masking mandate has been dropped, they’re still required, in the terminal, or on the plane.
