Honoring Adam: 305 Backpacks for Kids
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Backpacks, notebooks, and crayons—small items that can make a big difference. For the fifth year in a row, Cheryl Morris is donating school supplies to ACAP’s Stuff the Bus event in memory of her son, Adam MacDonald. Adam, known for his generous spirit and commitment to helping others, passed away on April 25, 2021. Today, his mother honors his legacy by continuing the work he cared so deeply about—ensuring children in need have the supplies to succeed.
Cheryl Morris, Adam MacDonald’s Mother said: “The inspiration came for doing this event in memory of my son Adam McDonald. When he was still with us, he used to buy supplies for the Help Stuff the Bus and one year I remember he had just gotten out of the hospital, just discharged, and we had to rush to Walmart because he was afraid he’d miss putting stuff in the box there.”
This year, with generosity from local residents, businesses, and others across the country, Cheryl says the donations surpassed last years’ haul. Morris: “They either send me donations or sometimes they’ll say what do you need. Amazon or UPS will show up and there’s an Amazon box from something that somebody ordered. So, like I just wanted to keep Adam’s legacy of giving alive. He always thought of others. Last year we ended up with 203 backpacks and this year we succeeded and got 305 backpacks. So, it was a huge success and I wanna thank everybody who helped make this possible.”
Thanks to Cheryl’s hard work, the community’s support, and ACAP’s dedication to the cause hundreds of children will head back to school with the supplies they need—and with a reminder that a little generosity can go a long way.
