As you know seniors in our local high schools are rapidly approaching graduation. Making decisions about a career can be a major challenge for them. Our friends at WOWL recently spoke to local staff and students to find out more about their plans.

As the war in Ukraine continues and many flee for their lives, some in the state of Maine, including here in the County, want to send some support. The Maine Realtor Association and the Maine Tourism Association have joined forces to send supplies of food and clothing to Ukrainian people.
Governor Janet Mills is proposing a change package to her supplemental budget that increases the amount of direct relief to Maine people in the face of inflation, strengthens Maine’s behavioral health system, bolsters housing initiatives to fight homelessness, and advances the State’s effort to support farmers impacted by PFAS, among other initiatives.
Catholic Charities Maine serves 28 food pantries throughout Aroostook County. As we have told you, WAGM in partnership with United Way of Arooostook and Catholic Charities Maine is raising money for our Operation Hunger Telethon. The money raised will be used by Catholic Charities to purchase food, which will then be distributed to those pantries.
Food insecurity happens when either you don't have enough money to purchase healthy food and/or you have to skip meals because you don't have enough money. It's an issue that sometimes can seem invisible, as pride can prevent people from letting others know they are struggling. But in fact, the issue of food insecurity is alive and well here in Aroostook County as the percentage of people facing it in the County is higher than the statewide average, especially among the County's youth.

On Thursday March 10th, WAGM, United Way of Aroostook and Catholic Charities will partner together to hold the 4th annual Operation Hunger Telethon. It’s been about two years since the Covid 19 pandemic began. People have been impacted in many different ways and several resources have been made available. We begin a new series called A Path Forward...Lessons From the Pandemic. A program called the Community Care for Social Change Program, became available during the pandemic to assist people who have to quarantine or isolate in their homes.

An independent commission is going to review the performance of Maine’s nursing homes during the pandemic. A commission of 25 experts from across the country, including one from Maine’s veterans’ homes is launching the review as part of a federal effort to analyze nursing homes' response to the coronavirus outbreak.

School counselors from RSU 39 and surrounding schools systems will be available for students, families, and staff from 1:00 pm - 5:00 PM today. School counselors will be available through the coming week to help students process this great loss to Caribou High School.
