As we face the potential of near record breaking low temperatures overnight Wednesday night, many are still worrying about how they will afford to heat their homes. One program available to help is the HEAP program or Home Energy Assistance Program.
Between inflation, high heating oil costs and high electricity, many are already concerned about the upcoming winter. Concerns are so high, calls are already coming into agencies like ACAP and United Way.
WAGM, in Partnership with United Way of Aroostook and ACAP, will be holding our annual heating telethon. Anticipating additional need this year, the guidelines for who qualifies for this emergency aid have been changed.
Between inflation at the grocery store and rising heating oil prices, many are unsure how they will get through the upcoming winter. WAGM, in partnership with ACAP and the United Way of Aroostook will hold our 6th annual Heating Telethon. The telethon will raise money for an emergency fund to help people struggling to heat their homes this winter.
The Home Energy Assistance Program or HEAP helps keep many folks in the County warm through the winter. Before qualifying for any telethon money, ACAP looks to see if you are eligible for money through HEAP.
The Helping Hands for Warm and Safe Homes Telethon was a huge success! More than 70,000 dollars was raised to help keep people warm and housed over the next year. That's the largest amount of money we've raised in a single telethon to date and it's all thanks to the wonderful people of Aroostook County.
Choosing between heating your home, feeding your family or paying for your medications. Those are the decisions some County folks face every year, every week, every day. There are several services available to make sure people don't have to make those difficult choices and one County woman says, she's grateful for the help and support she's receiving.
