- The federal Department of Health and Human Services says it will give more than $1.2 million to Maine to assist with the prevention of prescription drug overdoses.

The money will go to Maine's Department of Health and Human Service and provide the state with funding to improve prescription drug monitoring programs, evaluate current policies for effectiveness and implement new prevention and intervention strategies.

It was awarded through the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "Prescription Drug Overdose: Prevention for the States" program.

Twenty-nine states get money through the program.
