A 20 year old man was arrested up in the Valley after being pulled over for speeding and then being found with drugs.
On Sunday around 2 am, Trooper Matt Curtin was conducting traffic enforcement in the town of Saint Francis. Tr. Curtin attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding, but instead of pulling over onto the side of the roadway, the operator drove in behind the building formerly known as St. Francis School before coming to a stop. Tr. Curtin made contact with the male operator and identified him as 20 year old Joseph Hafford of Allagash. The investigation revealed that Mr. Hafford had been smoking Marijuana and attempted to dispose of it prior to being pulled over. During the investigation, Mr. Hafford was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia related to the use of methamphetamine. Mr. Hafford was arrested and transported to the Fort Kent Police Department where he posted bail. He was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine as well as Use and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Hafford is scheduled to appear in Fort Kent District Court on April 1, 2019.
