Congressman Bruce Poliquin of Maine says he's going to vote for a GOP tax overhaul that keeps the top tax rate intact, instead of lowering it as President Trump has suggested.
Poliquin said Tuesday the proposal will help Mainers by doubling the standard deduction and increasing tax credits for children.
He said it'd keep taxes low for small businesses and make large businesses more competitive by bringing the corporate rate in line with other industrialized countries.
He brushed aside a proposal by Trump to lower the top rate for high-income earners to 35 percent. Poliquin favors keeping it at 39.6 percent. The House will vote Thursday.
