County band director performing in second presidential inauguration

MADAWASKA, Maine (WAGM) - One County band director will be performing this week at his second presidential inauguration.

Benjamin Meiklejohn is the director for the Pride of Madawaska. The marching band will be playing in the Lincoln Memorial concert as part of the inauguration for President-elect Trump. This is actually Meiklejohn's second time welcoming in a new president. When he was a senior at Kennebunk high school, he marched in the inaugural parade for George H. W. Bush, back in 1989. He said he hopes his students enjoy this trip as much as he did his first time around.

"You know enjoy playing the music for an audience of 150,000 that might be there live, as well as who might be watching on TV. Appreciate what our national capital has to offer in terms of it's history and just to enjoy the whole experience," is what he would say for the students to take away from this trip.

He added that this trip is really full circle for him. Going from marching in the parade as a member of band, to directing the band this time around.
