Drifting snow likely contributes to fatal crash in Hamlin

On Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at about 6:00 PM, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a two vehicle crash on Route 1A in Hamlin.

Upon arrival at the scene, Deputy Sheriff Sgt. Matt Cummings determined that a 63 year old female from Limestone was northbound on Route 1A in her 2008 Chevrolet Impala when her vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Ethan Leblanc, 27, of Hamlin who was headed southbound.

The collision caused Leblanc’s vehicle to go off the roadway and to roll over, coming to rest on its roof.

Leblanc and his 5 year old passenger were transported by ambulance to Cary Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The female driver of the Chevrolet Impala was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The deceased females name is not yet being released at this time.

Drifting snow in the roadway caused icy road conditions at the time of the crash and is likely the contributing factor.

Sgt. Cummings was assisted on scene by a State Police accident reconstructionist, Van Buren Fire and Ambulance, Van Buren Fire Department and the U.S. Border Patrol.

The crash is under investigation and further information will be released once it becomes available.
