RSU 89 is Having A Successful School Year

RSU 89 is a recently established school system. Earlier this year, they withdrew from RSU 50 and had little time to get everything in order.

"The kids are having a good time, staff are finding new projects and new things to do and I think it's just an exciting time and it's going very well. " says Dawn Pray, Superintendent of RSU 89.

RSU 89 is collaborating with the schools in Medway and East Millinocket. They still work closely with RSU 50.

"That relationship is really important! We can't do it alone. School nowadays is at a place where you need to collaborate, you need to find efficiency's, you need to work together. As much as RSU 89 withdrew to have local control of their two schools, they still very much want to work with Southern Aroostook and East Millinocket and Medway and all the surrounding regions to insure that we're providing good programming for kids. "

The schools have moved sixth grade over to the high school, making it a 6-12 school. They are also working on adding more electives for students.

"I think it's just finding ways to utilize our resources and provide what we can to our kids what we can to our kids so they're prepared for their futures."

Pray says the school year is going smoothly and staff are continuing to work together to make the year a success.
