Second man arrested in theft of donation funds

On Wednesday, February 21st, the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a theft of money from a donation jar at North Star Variety in New Sweden.

According to the store owner, two men arrived at the store on snowmobile. One of the men distracted the store clerk while the other man stole the money out of the jar. The donations were to be used to fund a youth ice fishing tournament.

Deputy Sheriff Corey Saucier was able to identify one of the males involved in the theft as 26 year old Matthew Cocheran of Fort Fairfield. Cocheran was located and arrested on February 22nd at his residence in Fort Fairfield.

Deputy Saucier was able to identify the second male involved in this case as 41 year old Jeffrey Thibodeau Jr. of Caribou.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Thibodeau and he was subsequently arrested today by Officer Keith Ouellette of the Caribou Police Department.

Thibodeau is charged with 2 counts of class C theft due to multiple priors as well as criminal trespass.

Deputy Saucier’s investigation also revealed that Cocheran and Thibodeau broke into an impound lot of a Limestone wrecker service and stole a snowmobile. Cocheran and Thibodeau are also being charged with this offense.
