A standoff on the Reach Road in Presque Isle has ended in a murder/suicide. According to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state police, the Presque Isle Police Department responded to an emergency call Saturday night at 728 Reach Road. The state police Tactical Team and negotiators were also requested and arrived during the night. Early Sunday morning, McCausland says members of the tactical team entered the home and discovered two bodies inside. One of the deceased was an adult male, the other is a child. Based on information the investigators have at this point, the deaths are being treated as a domestic violence homicide/suicide. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
The State Police Major Crimes Unit and evidence technicians were at the home Sunday and may also return Monday. McCausland says the two bodies have been transported to the State Medical Examiners Office in Augusta for autopsies. The autopsies may take place on Moday. Once the autopsies are complete additional details will be released. In addition to the Presque Isle and State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.
