Two charged with cruelty to animals in Southern Aroostook County

Houlton, Me (WAGM) Two men in Southern Aroostook County have animal cruelty charges against them.

27-year-old Kevin G. Cummings of Houlton is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and 27-year-old Brian Vrieze of Hodgdon is charged with cruelty to animals.

These charges come after Houlton Police responded to a disturbance call at 52 School Street in Houlton. They determined the incident involved the abuse and death of a dog.

According to Houlton police chief Tim DeLuca, on scene officers conducted a thorough investigation, interviewing several witnesses and gathering evidence.

The investigation is currently ongoing with the assistance of the State of Maine Animal Welfare Program, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Aroostook County District Attorney's Office.

According to Chief DeLuca, The Houlton Police Department has zero tolerance for this kind of crime in the community.
