Upward Bound alumni and parents are writing to the Department of Education regarding Upward Bound being in danger of closing. This information comes from 2010 Upward Bound Alumnus Sam Portera.
As reported, the Upward Bound programs at the University of Maine at Presque Isle is in danger of closure because of a formatting error in two grant reports.
A group of alumni and parents immediately began an effort to protect the program by knocking on doors, calling community members and reaching out to friends, family, and strangers across the country to protect the program.
Portera says the Federal Department of Education has sole decision making power, and the deadline for a change could come at any moment.
So alumni and parents will deliver more than 1,200 letters written to Secretary DeVos asking her reconsider the exclusion of the grant applications.
