The first sled dog race of the season wil lbe held tomorrow in Eagle Lake. After a five year break the Eagle Lake 30 and 100 races are back on the mushing calendar. Race committee member Odette Dionne says the mushers are excited to have an early race on the schedule.
Odette Dionne):" One of the races that kinds of gets them going for the mushing season. It is a 100 a lot of the distance mushers run the 250 so this is a good beginner race for the dogs. It is also from of the Southern States the first time getting their dogs on the snow."
The race was popular event for spectators and the organizers are using the same starting point so that spectators can watch the race again.
Dionne:" We are starting on the same exact start and finish as in the past. We are starting on the Convent Road and ending by the Recreation Center and Town Office."
The 100 mile race will start at 10am and the 30 mile event will start at 11am. Mushers could start coming in mid afternoon depending on weather. Organizers are pleased with the number of entrants but they did say some teams have scratched.
Dionne:" We have had a few teams withdraw because didn't feel they had enough miles on their dogs yet."
