The Fort Kent Nordic ski team is looking for another solid year. Last year the boys won the State Championship and the girls finished third just one point out of second. Everyone is excited about the new year.
(Miguel Sanclemente):" I have high hopes for the season I guess. It should be a pretty good season."
(Riley Sibley):" I am really excited I think we have a pretty solid team and I know all our girls are really excited. Last year we came within one point away from being runners up for States and we didn't think we would do that great so it was fun. I think this year we are really excited and this year we can get runner up or win it all. "
(Carl Theriault):"We graduated three of our senior boys last year. It will leave a little hole in the boys, but I will tell you what the young guys have stepped right up and how fast they are progressing. They will struggle and they will work hard and they will do well. The girls team was young last year and they are mature and I think they are going to have a great year."
The team is focused on the big picture using the regular season to prepare for the States. Sanclemente says he thinks competitions this year will be very tightly contested
Sanclemente:"On the boys side the competition is very high and a lot of close finishes within miliseconds it should be a good year."
Sibley competes in both Nordic and Alpine and she says that she is always looking to improve.
Sibley:" Every race I try to work on getting a better time than the last one."
The Warriors may be young but they also have some depth and that will help them later in the year.
Theriault:" On the girls side I think we have 15 or 16 girls a lot of young girls and new girls again. We are lucky and fortunate there is a great skiing culture and the girls want to ski."
