The golfing season is still a few weeks away. Courses throughout the area are always looking for new members. For the second year in a row Houlton is offering a golf for life program that is geared to adults who are interested in learning the game. Last year the program was a huge success and organizers are hoping to carry the momentum forward this year

(Jerry York):"We had over 50 people take part in the program last year. Results were exceptional and people that participated were really happy. We are lucky to be able to do it again this year. Thanks in large part to the people who supported this. Vital Pathways which is a local 501 c 3 non profit and they are dedicated to a healthy lifestyle."

Golf is a lifelong sport. Some take the game up as children and other wait until later in life to learn to play .

Last year over 50 beginning golfers took part in the program and that exceeded expectations

(David Grant):" I thought when we set the number it was a little high but was really pleased with the way it turned out."

York:" They have been very pleased. David Grant did a tremendous job with all the people that were there. The reports we got from the people who participated were fantastic. They were really excited about the program."

Registration is now being taken for the program and the free lessons will begin in early May at the Houlton Golf Course driving range. Grant says the program is for any adults who are interested in learning the game.

Grant:"The lessons are designed to teach the individual how to play golf in a short period of time. Out of the people who signed up last year over 80 percent were women. This year as of right now we have 25 signed up and it is 50-50
