CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) - Cars were racing at Spud Speedway for the first time in several years.
One the biggest racing fields in Spud history there tonight, and there were plenty of fans who witnessed it first hand. Besides the 200 which was a super late model race, there was street stock and enduro classes.
In the Firecracker 200 there were 19 cars who ended up racing including several familiar faces like Austin Theriault and Kirk Thibeau.
The winner of the race was Derek Griffith from Hudson New Hampshire. DJ Shaw finished second, Cassius Clark took third, Andy MacDonald ended up fourth and Mike Hopkins rounds out the top five.
Kyle Reid raced today and he lives in Alberta which is roughly a 47 hour drive or a 13 and a half hour flight. He talks about why he wanted to race in the County.
"This year is the first year we've run. This is my 11th or 12th late model race. This is the first year I've done any PASS races. We ran one a few weeks ago and we ran the Open Sunday in Oxford. This one is a qualifier for Oxford and Richmond. We're already qualifiers for the Oxford 250 and we're trying to qualify for Richmond," he said.
