McAvoy steps down as SAHS Coach

Southern Aroostook is in the market for a new boys basketball coach.
Billy McAvoy has stepped down after six years as the Warriors coach. McAvoy told me that he will having back surgery later this year and felt that the recovery process would not allow him to coach this season. McAvoy coached the Warriors for six years and were Regional runners-up three times in 2014,16,and 17. His teams made six straight tournament appearances. SAHS Principal Jon Porter says " it has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to work with Billy for the last several years in his capacity as Varsity Boys Basketball Coach here at SACS. He will be missed next season."
McAvoy has over 400 career coaching wins with CAHS, Katahdin and SAHS. McAvoy will be inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame in August.
The search for a new coach is now underway.
