The defending Class D SAHS Warriors girls are ready for another run to the States. The Warriors return everyone from last year's team and Coach Cliff Urquhart says the team is focused, but he also doesn't want them to get complacent.
(Cliff Urquhart):" We talk a lot about complacency, just because you have everybody back doesn't guarantee anything. If you want some proof of that look at the Vinalhaven team that won the State Championship the previous year and then we beat them and they had everybody back. Just complacency and going out there and working hard every day."
The Warriors are a veteran team. This year they have four Seniors on the team who have seen significant playing time throughout their High School Careers.
Urquhart:" The other day I mentioned the term senior and I hadn't used that term in three or four years. Everybody laughed and thought it was fun because we have not had a senior in three years."
The players would love to be able to raise the gold ball again this year. They say they are focused on the prize, but they know it won't be easy
(Katelyn Slauenwhite):" We just need to take it like we didn't win last year. Forget about that and work just hard or even harder to try and get it again."
(Sydney Brewer):" I am really excited for this season. I think it is going to great for a lot of different reasons. I think we can go really far if we keep pushing ourselves and the motivation stays up."
(Kacy Daggett):" We all know what we need to work on. We are working with each other and pushing each other to get better. Practices are going really hard and we are all working really hard."
Slauenwhite :" That feeling I can't even describe it. We wanted that since we were seven. It is the most amazing thing ever and I can't describe it. I want it again."
The veteran says the team has a tough regular season schedule that should get them playoff ready. He says that early season workouts show they are focused
Urquhart:" Just with a lot of enthusiasm and just ready to get going. Ready to defend the title. There's a lot of challenges in the way. There's a lot of good teams out there and we know that. Just ready to get going."
