(WAGM) - The Firecracker 200 at Spud Speedway got a big commitment from a driver with ties to Aroostook County.
Fort Kent's Austin Theriault will be back in the County to race on Tuesday at 7:00. Last season he won the ARCA championship and was able to pick up seven victories on the year, however Theriault does not have a full time ride this year. He says he's excited to be racing once again, especially on the track where he first learned the sport.
"Well it's the first time I've been back behind the wheel in a race since our championship race last year, I think in October of 2017. It's unbelievable how time flies. The last time I was at Spud Speedway was 2012. Coming back here means a lot to me. It's great to see the track opening back up for this special event. I'm anticipating a lot of people will come out, competitors and spectators alike. It's going to be great to return there and hopefully run for another trophy because I won the inaugural Spud 150," he said.
We'll have more with Theriault later this week on what he's been up to this year.
