Washburn girls ready for the season

The Washburn girls basketball team is off to a 2-1 start on the season. The Beavers return everyone form last year's team and they are looking to make a bid for trip to Bangor

(Jon Poisson):" Everyone is returning so we have that year of maturity that year of growth. They are jumping right in just like we had planned for last year. Defensive intensity, pushing the ball and having fun."

Sophomore Emma Johnston is in her second year on the team and she is enjoying it.

(Emma Johnston):" It was a great experience seeing how we all worked together. We have the same people we didn't lose anybody."

Kassie Farley is one of the Seniors on the team. Farley has been the team's leading scorer and is looking forward to the rest of the season

(Kassie Farley):" I just want to make it a great year. I don't care if we all the way or not just play my hardest."

Johnston says the team has been working hard and that they know that communication is key

Johnston:" We are really good at communicating both on and off the court and knowing what our weaknesses are."

The Beavers lost in the prelim round to Jonesport Beals last year, their goal is to make it to the Cross Insurance Center this year. The team will be looking to score in transition and forcing turnovers.

Poisson:" We want to run most of them ran cross country and played soccer. Washburn has always had good runners so we are going to get out and going to go."
