County offering Mental Health First Aid training

Mental health was the topic of discussion in Presque Isle. Members of different community organizations attended a Mental Health First Aid training at the Aroostook County Action Program. The event was well attended and folks were surprised at what they learned. NewsSource 8's Katie Zarrilli tells us about the new knowledge that attendees are walking away with.

ACAP is fielding hundreds of calls from people asking about assistance

ACAP is fielding hundreds of calls an hour from people asking to see if they qualify for assistance when it comes to heating costs. This morning 519 calls came in between 8 and 9 am from people looking for help. While ACAP staff is doing everything they can to answer all of the calls, they are asking for patience from the public.

Washburn Area Veterans Memorial Park dedicated on Veterans' Day

Refurbishing the park began this summer, with the work spearheaded by Eagle Scout candidates Carvor Pendexter, Ryan Cole and Paul Tardie III of Boy Scout Troop 177. The boys installed new flagpoles which are lit at night, restored the canon, and installed a walkway and benches leading to a memorial stone featuring the names of Washburn veterans.
