if you know a hero, the Red Cross wants to hear from you.

What does it mean to be a real hero? The definition may mean different things to different people, but if you know someone who you think is a hero, the American Red Cross of Aroostook County wants to hear from you! The Red Cross is putting a call out for nominees for their Real Hero awards. Each year in the spring, the Red Cross recognizes and celebrates individuals and groups who are making a difference in other people's lives. Community manager Mary Green says they want the community to make their nominations now. She says the Red Cross has a mission to end all human suffering- and real heroes are people who have those same values and work towards that same mission. The deadline to submit heroes is December 1st.

This week will mark the 2nd annual Heating Homes with Helping Hands telethon.

WAGM, in partnership with ACAP and the United Way of Aroostook, is raising money for an emergency fund for those who need assistance with heating costs. Last year more than 43 thousand dollars was raised. That money went towards helping approximately 205 families.
