Susan Collins weighs in on the 2nd congressional race

Senator Susan Collins is weighing in on the congressional election. This was the first time ranked choice voting was used. Senator Collins says she's been in contact with Represesnative Bruce Poliquin and has congratulated Jared Golden on his win. But she added that she understands Poliquin's frustrations.

Local businesses seeing spike from last minute Christmas shopping

Christmas is getting closer and closer- which means so is the deadline for your shopping. This is of course a busy time of year for local stores, so we checked in with a few of them to see how things are going. Here's News Source 8's Katie Zarrilli.

An event to raise money for recovery is happening this weekend.

A Christmas craft and vendor fair will take place at the Stone Ridge event center here in Presque Isle. A portion of the money will go towards detox kits and scholarships for a residential discipleship program for those battling addiction.

Loring's future could include business at the international level.

Loring Development Authority has entered into an agreement with a Chinese entity, which will pay Loring an undisclosed amount of money to secure a foothold at the former air force base, should it decide to establish a business there.

The Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee have some big shoes to fill

Harry Hafford retired this past Friday...after 19 years on the job. Lloyd Woods is the secretary of the committee...he says the committee plans to hold a special meeting either at the end of this month or the beginning of next month to decide who will take over as chairman. He says it will likely be someone on the committee, which has about 20 members. He says filling Haffords shoes will be a tough job, but he hopes a member of the committee will step up to the plate. We asked him what he'd like to see in the next chairman.

Maine ranks #1 in the New England and 7th in the nation for food insecurity

Students at universities can struggle to afford food as well. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the state ranks #1 in New England and #7 in the nation for food insecurity. But most people don't realize that college students are affected as well.

The looming deadline to sign up for ACA health care is approaching

The period began on November 1st. Stanley Targonski is a health care navigator at the Aroostook County Action Program. He says County folks signing up this year have 3 different companies to choose from: Community Health Options, Harvard Pilgrim, and Anthem. Targonski is available to help people register and select a plan both in person and over the phone. He says signing up can be confusing for some.
