TD Bank and its customers working to end hunger here in The County

Catherine Boone, Financial Services Representive with the Presque Isle branch, says the bank is sponsoring an open house at Catholic Charities' Threads of Hope Store on State Street in Presque Isle on Friday and Saturday. The Spring Fling event is designed to raise awareness of the nonprofit's efforts to feed those in need right here at home. The bank has pledged to make a donation, on behalf of its customers, to aid Catholic Charities' goal of Feeding the County.

Local businesses react to possible plastic bag ban

Maine has already become the first state to ban Styrofoam food containers. And soon plastic bags could follow. A recent legislative hearing in Augusta took place to take up the matter. Advocates for the bill say it would promote a clean and green environment where recycleable bags would be the option of choice for businesses and restaurants. Critics say plastic or recycleables won't have an impact on saving the environment. More than 20 cities and towns in Maine already have ordinances to limit single use bags. Donald Samiya (SAM-EE-YA), the store manager of Graves Shop and Save in Presque Isle says his business will comply with whatever the state legislature decides.
