Pursuit Ends in Collision with Amish Wagon; Suspect in Custody

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - On February 25, 2025, at approximately 7:30 AM, the Presque Isle Police Department initiated a vehicle pursuit involving Anthony Vangel, a 34-year-old resident of Easton, Maine. The pursuit commenced in the parking lot of the Aroostook Mall and concluded on the Fort Road shortly thereafter. Due to speeds reaching 90 MPH and adverse road conditions, the pursuit was terminated.
Shortly after the pursuit ended, Mr. Vangel lost control of his vehicle, spinning on the roadway and striking a horse-drawn Amish wagon carrying six children. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, including to the horse. Mr. Vangel was arrested without further incident.
At the time of the pursuit, the Presque Isle Police Department was aware Mr. Vangel had failed to report to the Aroostook County Jail and was on ten sets of bail, including charges of aggravated trafficking with a firearm, burglary, theft, forgery, and violation of bail.
Mr. Vangel is facing new charges of operating after suspension, operating under the influence, eluding, driving to endanger, refusing to submit to arrest and detention, criminal speed, failure to report, and violation of bail. He was transported to the Aroostook County Jail.
No further information will be released pending the completion of the investigation.
